ÖDO, ARTISTA DE BIDART, AQUITANIA. SUS TRANSFORMACIONES DE PERSONAJES DE LA INFANCIA EN FIGURAS RETORCIDAS CARGADAS DE DETALLE LO CONVIERTEN EN UNO DE LOS ARTISTAS REFERENTES DEL LOWBROW. ANTES DE SU INAUGURACIÓN EN SPACEJUNK, HABLAMOS CON ÉL. MIRAR AL PASADO, VER SUS CUADROS Y VOLVERTE MAYOR DE UN PLUMAZO.
TU NOMBRE ARTISTICO, ÖDO. ¿POR QUÉ ÖDO?
No sé por qué, pero se ajustaba bien. Quiero decir que es un pseudónimo simétrico, geométrico, como mi arte, simple pero complejo a la vez. Esto es mejor para poder firmar en mis obras también. Esto es más gráfico que un gran nombre.
HACE UNOS MESES VIMOS TU TRABAJO AQUI, EN SPACEJUNK, EN LA EXPOSICIÓN COLECTIVA LES ENFANTS TERRIBLES. AHORA, VUELVES CON UNA EXPOSICIÓN INDIVIDUAL. INTIMIDA MÁS?
Es mucho más difícil hacer una expo solo que para un colectivo. No es tan sencillo hacer una exposición colectiva como Les Enfants Terribles porque el resto de artistas eran increíbles. Así que esto no es el mismo, pero en cada show hay una presión. Y obviamente cuando llegue la inauguración y esté presente sentiré de las reacciones en tiempo real y centradas solo en mi trabajo.
SABEMOS QUE, PARA QUE TI HAN SIDO MESES MUY DIFÍCILES…
Esta es mi historia personal, mi vida, y no quiero hablar demasiado de eso. Sólo decir que he tenido un karma muy malo durante 6 meses. Y así sí que era realmente difícil preparar esta expo.
ESTILO LOWBROW. ¿TE GUSTA ESTAR EN UN GRUPO DE NOMBRES DE JÓVENES ARTISTAS QUE REPRESENTAN A ESTE ESTILO?
No sé, para mí Sólo soy un dibujante, pintor, o algo así. Hay talento en todas partes, artistas jóvenes, mayores… Este movimiento, el lowbrow, se trata de un nombre, tal vez para la gente que no dibuja y pinta puede significa algo, pero cuando uno trabaja 12 horas al día y días 6 a la semana, no le importa en realidad el movimiento en el que se le involucra. Para las galerías es bueno hablar de movimiento, para el artista, no lo sé. Yo sólo sé que voy a tener que mejorar para ser mejor artista y eso es todo.
¿QUIÉN ES EL ARTISTA DE LOWBROW QUE MÁS TE GUSTA EN ESTE MOMENTO?
Para mí, Glenn Brown es el mejor artista de Lowbrow.
HAS ESTADO EN BRASIL, CONCRETAMENTE EN GALERIA CHOQUE CULTURAL, EN LA EXPOSICIÓN COLECTIVA «BLIND SOCIETY». ¿CÓMO FUE?
Se suponía que eran unos día de fiesta, uuna muestra con el grupo de artistas Benjamín Jeanjean de Francia y Znort de Brasil. Pero ya sabes, el karma… Todas las obras de Benjamin y las mías fueron bloqueadas al entrar, y para poder llevárnoslas teníamos que pagar como 7000 €… no teníamos dinero para eso y así creamos una exposición en sólo 5 días. Fue complicado. En el aspecto de trabajo fue duro, pero una experiencia muy agradable, cuando pasa algo así, tienes un verdadero intercambio entre todos los artistas para crear el show, y eso fue realmente grande, hay una historia detrás de este espectáculo. No sólo supuso colgar obras de arte en la pared. El estado de ánimo brasileño nos dio, además, mucha motivación. Los chicos brasileños fueron muy agradables, así que, sí, fue una experiencia estupenda!
TU TRABAJO HA SIDO EXPUESTO EN ESPACIOS ATRACTIVOS DE FRANCIA, ALEMANIA, ESTADOS UNIDOS, DINAMARCA… ¿DÓNDE TE GUSTARÍA QUE SE VIERA EN EL FUTURO?
En la luna. No, en serio. Hay otros tantos lugares atractivos, como China, Japón, Australia, Marruecos, Canadá … Me gustaría viajar a cada país cada vez que estoy haciendo un show. Pero en realidad mis obras de arte se mueven mucho más que yo.
DESPUÉS DE SPACEJUNK, DONDE VAMOS A ENCONTRAR LAS CREACIONES DE ÖDO? PROYECTOS FUTUROS…
No sé, no estoy seguro, seguiré adelante. Yo he nacido así, voy a morir así, con mi puto bolígrafo!

YOUR ARTISTIC NAME, ÖDO. WHY ODÖ?
I don’t know why, but it fit well. I mean this is a symetrical surename, like my art, really fitted, symetrical, geometrical, simple but complex a the same time. this is better to sign on my art also. This is more graphic than a big name.
WE SAW YOUR WORK HERE, IN SPACEJUNK, A FEW MONTHS AGO, IN A COLLECTIVE EXHIBITION, LES ENFANTS TERRIBLES. NOW, YOU CAME HERE IN A INDIVIDUAL EXPOSURE. MORE INTIMIDATING?
This is much more hard to make a solo than to make a collective. This is not so simple to make a group show like Les enfants Terribles also because the other artist are amazing. So this is not the same but in every show there is a pressure. And obviouvsly when you are present at the opening. You have the reactions in real.
WE KNOW THAT, FOR YOU, HAS BEEN VERY HARD TO STAGE THIS INDIVIDUAL EXHIBITION…
This my own personal story, my life, and so i don’t want to speack about that. Just well a very bad Karma during 6 month long. And so yes that was really hard to stage.
LOWBROW STYLE. DO YOU LIKE BEING IN A GROUP OF YOUNG ARTIST NAMES AS REPRESENTATIVES OF THE LOWBROW STYLE?
I don’t know, for me i’m just a drawer, a painter, something like that. There is talent everywhere, young, old… This movement, the lowbrow, this is a name, for guys maybe who doesn’t draw and paint that mean something but when you work like 12hour a day and 6 days per week you don’t really care about the movement you are involving in. This is good for gallery to talk about movement, for artist i don’t know. I only know i will have constantly to improve myself to other big known artist and that’s all.

YOU HAVE BEEN IN BRASIL, CONCRETLY IN CHOQUE CULTURAL GALLERY, IN THE “BLIND SOCIETY” GROUP SHOW. HOW WAS THAT?
That was supposed to be holiday, and at the end our group show with the artist Benjamin Jeanjean from France and Znort from Brazil. But well you know the karma… All the artworks of me and Benjamin have been keept by the governement, to unblock them we have to paid like 7000€… so well we have not the money for that and so we create an exhibition in 5 days. So really hard at work, but such a nice experience, when you do something like that, you have a real exchange between every artist to create the show, and that was really great, there is a story behind this show this is not only artwork on wall. Artwork talk to each other, and the Brazialian mood give to us lot of motivation. The Brazilians guys was really nice, so, yes, great experience!!
REALLY, YOUR WORK HAS BEEN SHOWED IN A LOT OF ATRACTIVES PLACES IN FRANCE, GERMANY, UNITED STATES, DENMARK… WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHOW YOUR WORK IN THE FUTURE?
On moon. No Seriously there is so many other attractive places, like China, Japan, Australia, Maroc, Canada… I would like to travel everytime in the country i’m doing the show. But actually my artworks move much more than me.
AFTER SPACEJUNK, WHERE ARE WE GOING TO FIND ÖDO´S CREATIONS? FUTURE PROJECTS?
I don’t know, not a break i’m sure, keep on going. I’m born like this, i will die like this, with my fucking ballpoint pen!!
